Are You Fit? It’s Not All About Physical Fitness

Fitness is more than going to the gym or working out at home.

It is about being fit to overcome your own personal challenges faced daily. In addition to physical fitness, we also must feed and exercise our spiritual as well as social fitness. Yes i said spiritual fitness, but it is not only about religion. Spiritual fitness, when distinguished from religion, is about human capacities and functions that added together make you who you are.

Spirituality in this sense is the sum of your self-awareness and self-transcendence. Spirituality becomes the question “Who are you?” Take a moment and ask yourself that question? In our busy lives many of us seldom look at who we are as individuals and how we interact in society. After a difficult argument it’s wise to internalize the situation. Is there something in your life that is making you irritable?

Feeling Fit?

For example, in one of the many times in life, I was stressed out and testy with everyone. Knee deep in researching something that at the time I thought was equal to saving the world. While researching, I ran into a quote that made me stop in my tracks. It was a paraphrased saying from Plato, “Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.”

The words intrigued me by their authoritative truth. Everyone in their own way is most likely are facing some sort of battle or dilemma. And more often than not, the person thinks it is as serious as a Jack Bauer situation in “24,” the world depends on you and only you. Guess what? The other people in your life are facing the same thing all at different levels, but feel their situation is just as important.

Now, how does that relate to spirituality? I’ll throw myself under the bus. At the time when i was stressed out, if someone approached me I snapped at them, because i was busy “saving the world.” My thoughts were “How dare those to ask such pity questions while I am dealing with this?” Indirectly my actions were telling everyone that my world was all that mattered and their problems mean nothing.

I bet I am not alone in living moments like that. Take a moment and look at your life in introspect and your interactions. Have you ever reacted like that? Is that the way you want people to respond when you seek their help or advice? For me it was a bit of a life changer and made me look at my spirituality, and I did not like it.

Fortunately at the time, I was working for a person that was a great mentor and expert in all areas of our field. He sat caddy corner from my cubicle and was always working on at a least a dozen different issues compared to my workload. That following day I observed his interactions, as everyone sought his advisement on whatever their project was about. As always he was tearing up the keyboard most likely building up a database or answering dozens of emails.

Here he was , most likely thinking that for once he could go home at a decent hour (which rarely happened), but every 5-10 minutes someone would walk up to his desk seeking guidance. Every time he had the same response when approached. He would stop what he was doing; sit back and attentively listened to their concerns. Then he would walk them through their issue, provide whatever guidance needed, ensure they understood clearly with a course of action, and then he would jump right back into his work. His patience amazed me.

“Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.”

The saying dug deep into my spirituality when dealing with others, especially when reinforced with seeing how my boss handled people even with his busy workload. It helped me realize that taking time to help others with their dilemma is a necessity for a healthy spirit. Of course there are limits to anyone’s patience and often occasions call for more assertive measures. Now I see that those situations are the minority faced daily.

Looking hindsight, I wonder how many other opportunities I missed to help my spirituality. Now I often look into my daily life to see if my spirit is fading. By doing this I find my spirit growing. Are there opportunities you are missing? In your busy life, are you hurting others more than helping them? Is your spirituality fading or growing?

Take the opportunity to look into your soul and exercise your spirituality. A great time to do that is when you are exercising, especially during a brisk walk or run. In the end you will find that it will make you feel like a better person. Keep your spirituality fit as well as your physical fitness. And share your findings with others to improve the world around you.

How’s Your Spiritual Fitness?

Springtime: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

Springtime is almost here and summer life is right around the corner. It is a time of change in many ways and time to readapt other ways. I call it The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.

But don’t take me as negative, I’m just the whispering voice of reality, discussing the springtime’s rite of passage that comes around every year as we de-layer our lives to summer mode, in more ways than one…so here goes.
Springtime
The Good:

Great springtime weather is here, the plants are once again breathing life and the animals are in their springtime awakening to reclaim their summer land.

Nothing is more beautiful, although some will debate that fall is prettier then springtime. To each their own, but I am a fan of less clothes then bundling up with restricting layers of clothes! With The Good comes, well…

The Bad:

Face it, most of us gained a little extra padding to get through the cold wintry days or the extra pounds left over from the holidays. But as springtime leads into summer, there’s no more hiding it under layers of clothes. Unless you want to be the weirdo with the trench coat at the beach, take the springtime to find an effective way to lose the pounds and flatten the stomach.

And now the sad truth for some this springtime…

The Ugly:

For some springtime brings relationship doubts. The human desire to see what else is out there can lead to out of the blue springtime break-ups.

Maybe it is the end of the school year leaving couples seeing the perceived challenges of being geographically separated. Or it’s the graduation break up where the guy or girl starts having doubts that the relationship can survive the transition to the “real world”.

For others it could be cascading issues from winter’s cabin fever causing one to wonder what else is out thereas the springtime air of change encaptures us all. No doubt, in either case, there is always one partner that is left hurting, not understanding why? Maybe you are right and the break up was a mistake.

How about some relationship advice that can guide you through a second chance at getting your ex back into love? Is it possible? If so, what is the right way to approach it? More importantly, what actions should you avoid that would sink the relationship forever?

Yes, there are some challenges that springtime brings. The good news is that they are easily overcome. It’s not that hard to get rid of those pounds so that last year’s bathing suits fits. And yes the six pack can be recovered and the belly pounds lost.

The human race has persevered many springtime issues and recovered from break ups that make life seem unbearable. Don’t waste opportunity or time.

Come on people, let’s get with it and make this summer better than the years prior. Take the steps in springtime to make it happen and check out this blog’s other pages to see how to do it before the beaches awaken with life!

Weight Loss Exercises | Three Effective Weight Loss Exercises!

Are you like me and starting to feel like it is time to find weight loss exercises to drop the extra pounds?

If you are thinking about it then the answer is yes, especially with summer lurking around the corner. Like it or not weight loss exercises are the number one way to drop the pounds, above the dreaded diet plan.

Picking up a regular work-out routine will help in many ways to improve cardiovascular function, burn calories and overall make you feel better about yourself. When you start with weight loss exercises, you will find yourself addicted, like a natural high, as long as you take it slow and at your own pace.

There is no need to jump in and work-out like an Olympian. That method will only discourage you from continuing on with it. By taking it in stride you will find weight loss exercises will easily become a joy in your life.

This is especially true for this time of year as the weather is getting nice and nature is reviving from the winter cold. And just as the flowers are blooming, the renewed activity in your life will increase your energy as well as your outlook in life.

Wondering which weight loss exercises to begin with?

weight loss exercises

Well let’s start by doing a few simple but effective weight loss exercises to get the blood flowing and the calories burning.

First, let’s begin by walking. This is by far the easiest yet least respected of the weight loss exercises for losing weight. It does not require a gym membership or any special equipment. All that is needed is a safe road or path to let you place one foot in front of the other for at least 20 minutes, three to 5 times a week.

Many recommend running, but even a simple jog for some can put too much pressure on the knees and ankles after months or possibly years of inactivity. Begin with a slow but brisk walk, then slowly increase your pace to keep the heart pumping and the calories burning.

The next best of the weight loss exercises would be fitness classes. Just call around to your local centers and you will find that it is very easy to find a class that fits your level of health. It can be fun along with having others there to help motivate you. Plus you will have the added benefit of a professional to ensure you do not overexert yourself.

Lastly the next best exercise is sports. I bring this up last as my experiences leads to believe some should work up to this. Sports can be a blast and will help you work out that excess weightwhile also working the cardiovascular system.

Be sure to pick an active sport and not horseshoes or such like that, but something like tennis, softball, or golf. Some may frown on golf, but if you play like I do, even a golf cart can’t stop the extensive chase for the uncooperative white ball.

Most importantly, pick a sport that is fun for you, your friends or family and have fun with it while the pounds fall away.

Those are very basic weight loss exercises. No real excuse not to start today. So get out there get started on a program of weight loss excerses and lose those pounds to a new you. Once you start the fitness bug will keep you going.

And as you lose weight you will get a lot of encouragement as your coworkers, friends and family complement the new you. As for me, I already have the route down and will begin the weight loss exercises before the sun sets.
